YOUNGSTERS IN IPL 2020

IPL has been life changing for so many talented young stars since its inception in 2008. It has been like the easiest way for youngsters to showcase their skills in front of global audience.

If you go through the history of IPL, there would be so many example who had entered the big stage of international cricket after showing their mettle in IPL.

So, this year's IPL is not different from that. Some performed well under the burden of expectations, some did average and some stood up high with big guns blazing.

So, let's look who have performed exceptionally:-

DEVDUTT PADIKKAL

Let's assume we are in 2019, so here a 19 years old kid from Karnataka joined RCB just for INR 20lakhs without any fuzz. Any other team did not bid for him even for once.

So now, we are back in 2020, IPL league stage is over and if anyone ask you who has been the best youngster with the bat ?

The answer is pretty easy, it's Devdutt Padikkal and the 19 years mentioned guy is none other than him. Devdutt has been the biggest hero for the Indian cricket in domestic level for the last one year. Why?

 His stats will tell you:

In Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20

M    I     NO    R      HS    Avg    SR      100   50

13  13    2     650   103  59.09  78.40     2      5

In Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy 2019-20

M    I     NO    R      HS    Avg    SR      100   50

12  12    3     580   122    64.4  175.55    1      5

Ranji Trophy 2019-20

M    I     NO    R      HS    Avg    SR      100   50

10  19    3     649    99   40.56  52.33     0      7

You didn't get it yet ?

Ok, so he was the highest run getter of both the white ball tournaments and highest run getter for his state Karnataka in Ranji Trophy.

So, just in one year, the INR 20lakhs valued guy in auction had gained a lots of expectations and the burden of expectations could had been costly for him. But he started IPL with a bang with 50+ score in his first 4 matches in IPL2020.

56 vs SRH

1 vs KXIP

54 vs MI

63 vs RR

RCB's one of the biggest problem for last few seasons was having no batting firepower without VK and ABD and as a result they have failed to qualify for playoffs for last 3 seasons. So arrival of Padikkal was obviously going to boost them. Yes, it did as expected and RCB has qualified for the first time after 2016.

The first 3 fifties were just the start of his dream run. Now after the league matches, he is the 4th highest run scorer overall in this season and highest among uncapped players .

Padikkal's batting stats in IPL2020:

M      I    NO    R     HS    Avg     SR       100  50

14   14    0     472   74   33.71   126.54    0      5

Ishan Kishan

"A boy from Jharkhand leading Indian Cricket Team in Blues from behind the stumps"

Yes this words are perfect one and only Mahendra Singh Dhoni but there was also another guy who satisfied this words back in 2016,Ishan Kishan - the captain of India U19 World Cup squad in 2016.

Being the captain of the squad the expectations were high from him but he just scored 73 runs in 6 matches. But soon after that tournament Ishan became Jharkhand's leading run scorer with 799 runs including a inning of 273 runs against Delhi in Ranji that season.

He was consistent in domestic level every year and was considered as one of the brightest young prodigies in Indian Cricket. But his consistency lacked in the big stage of IPL but sparks of brilliance were noticed

Ishan Kishan's Runs in Previous IPL seasons

In 2016-  42 runs in 5 matches

In 2017- 277 runs in 11 matches

In 2018- 275 runs in 14 matches

In 2019- 101 runs in 7 matches

MI bought Ishan in 2018 IPL for INR 6.2 crores with strong hopes but he never delivered according to his price value or even his capabilities.

But Dhoni being retired from the International white ball cricket, this season's IPL was too much important for the Indian wicketkeeper-batsmen. And in this high time, Ishan tried to reach his best with a perfect start.

Ishan played his 1st match against RCB after recovering from injury. Everyone expected a good start but Ishan given them a match changing 99 .So, the beginning was near to perfect but consistency was required which he lacked every season,1 or 2 good innings was not going to make any impact. But this season Ishan was determined to make this season big and the result?

Ishan's Batting stats in IPL 2020

M      I    NO    R     HS    Avg       SR         100   50

12   11     2    428   99   47.55   140.32     0      3

2nd highest Indian uncapped run scorer just after Padikkal at the end of the league stage.

Ishan always had the advantage of high strike-rate but which made difference this season is his maturity in building innings and try to finish matches just like his idols M S Dhoni and Adam Gilchrist.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj has been a consistent performer is domestic level for a few seasons now and regular member of India-A squads. He made his first class debut in the 2016-2017 season for Maharashtra.

CSK bought Ruturaj in his base price of INR 20lakhs in 2019 player auction but with some really big names in their batting line up it was really difficult for Ruturaj to be regular in CSK's playing XI.

But in this year's IPL, Raina being unavailable, Ruturaj seemed to be the guy to fill Mr. IPL's big shoes. Here came twist in the plot, he was tested positive in COVID-19 just before the start of the IPL2020.

When he came back after being tested negative and finishing quarantine, things did not look healthy for him either.

Why?

His first 3 innings were of

0,5,0

At last he came to his own against RCB scoring 65 for a winning cause and won the MoM award and from there he didn't stop and went on storing another two 50+ scores against KKR and KXIP in his next two matches.

His scores in last 3 league matches were:

65 vs RCB (MoM)

72 vs KKR (MoM)

62 vs KXIP (MoM)

So, now Ruturaj has become the 1st  uncapped Indian to score 3 consecutive 50+ scores in IPL2020 and 1st CSK player to do so in history.

Ruturaj's batting stats in IPL2020:

M    I    NO    R      HS    Avg    SR      100   50

6    6     2      204   72     51    120.71    0      3

Ravi Bishnoi

The rise of Bishnoi has been a steady one. After Yashasvi Jaiswal he was the most prolific player for India U-19 at the world cup in South Africa this year. The leg spinner impressed everyone with aggressive intend. In the final,if india got a slight chance to think about win then this was because of Bishnoi. At one stage Bangladesh were 85/5 just because of Bishnoi. He finished for 30/4 in 10 overs and eventually Bangladesh won the match chasing just 178. He returned with 17 wickets in 6 games being the highest wicket taker in the tournament.

After a decent list A-season in 2019-20, it was time for him to rock in IPL 2020. The stage was set,as KXIP bought him for a whopping INR 2cr.A leg spinner named Anil Kumble, hero of bishnoi's childhood, was going to be his mentor.

He made his debut against DC and got the wicket of Rishabh Pant and finished with 1/22 but this big game for him came against SRH where his card was 3 for 29 and the victims?

D.Warner

J.Baristow

M.Pandey

He just changed the momentum of the game taking both the openers in one-over. His another great performance came against RCB where he finished with 3/32. Bishnoi was KXIP's main attacking bowler after M.Shami.

The expectation was huge on Bishnoi after a wonderful U-19 world cup campaign and he satisfied it in a great way being 13th highest wicket taker after the league stages after 12 wickets in 14 matches. But which is more appreciating that he is the 3rd highest uncapped wicket taker after V Chakravarthy and T Natarajan.

Bishnoi's bowling stats in IPL2020:

Arshdeep Singh

"Member of a world cup winning squad"

Most of us may not know but yes he is. He was the member of U-19 World Cup winning squad in 2018. He just played two games there and did well.

He got his 1st list-A game against Himachal Pradesh in Vijay Hazare Trophy 18/19 and had a decent debut with 2 wickets .Later he joined KXIP in IPL 2019 just for 20 lakhs ,his base price . He got his chance against RR and picked the wickets of Buttler and Rahane and claimed "Game changer of the match" award in his debut .Except that match, IPL2019 was not a hit for Arshdeep.

In the start of IPL2020 he was not getting chance in playing XI as usual just like previous year. KXIP was struggling in death overs in bowling at the start of the league. Arshdeep's ability to bowl good yorkers and having control in death overs was well known so management thought to give him a chance.

Against SRH, in his 1st match he just gave 16runs and took 2 vital wickets of Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg in death overs. So his arrival was on spot but his best was yet to come. The best match for him by impact was against KKR where he got the wicket of "Dre Russ" in the start of 19th over. And if "Dre Russ" stayed at the crease in the ending overs what could had happened we all know. He finished the match with 1/25 with 1 maiden over. His best bowling figure was against SRH where he finished with 3/23 and did a death over heroics with Chris Jordan defending just 126 runs and went on winning the match.

Arshdeep has finished this year IPL campaign with 9 wickets in just 8 matches and his strike rate being just 16.55,10th best among all this season.

Arshdeep's bowling stats in IPL2020:

M     Wkts    BBI      Avg     Eco      SR

  8        9       3/23    24.22    8.77    16.55
