Iga Swiatek,
the reigning Rolland-Garros Champion
ends 2020 with one last title to add to the mantle: 2020 WTA fan favorite.
Following in the footsteps of popular country women Agniezka Radwanska, who won
the award six times in a row, Swiatek becomes the second Polish woman to be
name s as the WTA fan favorite Player of the Year and snaps over former no.1
Simona halep’s streak of 3 wins in a row, who comes second this year.
Still a teenager, up against the fellow nominees Coco Gauff, Simona Halep, Daria
Gavrilova and Daria Kasatkina,
Swiatek won well over 50% of the fan’s
vote- with no recount in sight to earn the victory as ‘2020 WTA Fan Favorite
Player of the Year’.
Swiatek came into
spotlight in a big way, rolling through the French Open with the loss of just
23 games and ended up the likes of Halep and Australian Open champion Sofia
Kenin to capture Grand slam glory in Paris.
