Recently, Women's Tennis Association (WTA) revels the comeback player of the year is the
former world no. 1 Belarusian 'Victoria Azarenka'.
This award is given to those player who's ranking previously dropped due to
injury or personal reasons and current season's result's helped restore ranking.
Start
of after a strong season in 2014 and
2015, Victoria Azarenka continuous her impressive run in the start of the season
in 2016 and wins 3 titles, including back to back premier mandatory titles in
Indian Wells and Miami but the mid-way of the season, She announced that she
was pregnant and eventually gave birth to her son 'Leo' in December of that
same year.
Following
her leave in 2016 May, due to pregnancy, she returned to tour during the grass
and court swing in 2017 at the Mallorca open. But, despite a few strong results
over the last 3 seasons (2014-2016), she was unable to put together her strong
runs, until the summer of 2020, goes down her ranking below 50.
In August
2020, Azarenka claimed her first title in over four years, since winning the 'Miami
Open' in March 2016, at the western and southern open 'WTA Premier 5' level tournament
and reached her fifth career grand slam final at the 'US Open' losing to 'Naomi
Osaka' in 3 set battle. She also reached the final at the 'J and T Banka Ostrava
Open' making her one of five players to reach 3 or more finals in 2020, losing
to fellow countryman 'Aryna Sabalenka'.
Her impressive result
of 2020, helped her to return WTA top 20 for the first time since March 2017
and finishes the season as world no. 13.
