MUHAMMED ANAS YAHIYA

In the recent years we saw the rise of Indian athletes in every competition right from IAAF worlds to commonwealth games. One of those athlete who gave took India to a new level is Muhammed Anas. Born on 17th September 1994, this 26 year old young man proved his potential every time he got chance.

Anas took up athletics at the Style Sports Academy in Nilamel. He initially trained in the long jump, and changed to 400 m by chance, when his school team was looking for a last-minute replacement for a 400 m competition. After completing his education Anas joined India Navy as seaman and kept his eyes on his passion.

He broke the national 400m record at Polish Athletic Championship in June 2016 clocking 45.40 seconds, the exact mark for 2016 Olympics. He became the 3rd Indian athlete to qualify for this Olympics event after K.M.binu and Milkha Singh. In July 2016 Anas was the part of the team which broke the national 4*400m relay record at Bangalore, and was qualified for Rio Olympics. Sadly he was not able to bag any medal in Rio Olympics 2016, but after coming back bare hand he took his performance to another level. He baged 2 gold medals in 2017 Asian championship, 2 silver and 1 gold in 2018 Asian games.

The young athlete from Kerala with a national record of 45.21 seconds in 400m is all set for mixed 4*400m relay in 2021 Tokyo Olympics, along with Vismaya, Krishna Mathew and Tom Nirmal Noah, the team finished behind Poland and Brazil with a time of 3:16.14s to reach the final of World Athletics Championship, the 3rd place finish also saw the Indian team secure their berth in the Tokyo Olympics as a result. Hope this time the team will bring back glory.
