Yashaswini Singh Deswal

Yash’ means ‘Glory’ and ‘Yashaswini’ means ‘Female who accumulates Glory’. Indian gunner in top of her form will surely be up for challenging the Golden target in Olympics

You know the event 10m Air Pistol in a sport called shooting. You heard the name of teenage sensation Manu Bhaker. If you know about her a bit more, then you may also be expecting an Olympic medal from her. Fair enough, but do you know Yashaswini Singh Deswal? Well, if you don’t, then sorry! But, you should. Let me introduce her to you.

India has been an impressing nation in shooting for quite long, but in the last few years India has surged to become the strongest force in shooting world. Among a set of very young age shooters from our country dominating in international levels, Manu Bhaker is surely one of the most glittering names in 10m Air Pistol genre, since she started winning senior world cup golds at the age of only 16. But here comes Yashaswini, uprooting Manu Bhaker from her well-preserved top spot in World rankings.

Initial days:

Hailing from a family of army men, her inherited liking to the sport turned to passion after she witnessed 2010 Commonwealth Games. And straight away in 2011, she started learning the sport under legendary coach Tejinder Singh Dhillon and started competing from 2012. She also has her super-supportive father whom she owes all her success, “It’s not my success, but we are a team, both of us… Even in the cold winter mornings, he is there for me to wake and go for physical training.”

Year 2016:

Couple of Silver in individual and team event in ISSF Junior World Cup, Suhl, Germany

Team gold in ISSF Junior World Cup, Qabala, Azerbaijan

Another team Gold with an added individual Bronze in South Asian Games

Year 2017:

A lifetime moment of Miss Deswal came off in the year 2017 as she claimed the ISSF Junior World Championship 10m Air Pistol Gold equaling the World record of 235.9.

Year 2019 and onwards:

The golden journey of Yashaswini kick starts from here on. She pulled off an individual gold along with a silver in mixed team in Rio World Cup. Then, Covid sets in and guess what! She kept on his brilliance going in recently concluded New Delhi World Cup, claiming Bronze in Mixed team pairing with Abhishek Verma; a Gold in team event with Manu Bhaker and Paramanantham Shri Nivetha and at last, a very personal gold medal leaving behind fellow Manu Bhaker.

And as of now she sits right at the top of 10m Air Pistol Women’s World ranking with a rating of 1820 followed by our very own Manu Bhaker with 1758 rating.

As the official website of ISSF tells, she is an economics student and also very fond of swimming, reading and adventure sports. Fun fact, she was suspended along with some other shooters for participating in a unauthorized online shooting competition which was revoked later as the decision came under the pressure of huge criticism. Well, she just gave a perfect reply with the World Cup Gold.

The girl, who just crossed 24 year mark, will be competing both in individual and mixed team event. And don’t get me wrong, but we surely can expect even more than just one medal from Yashaswini Singh Deswal, who idolizes Jitu Rai. KheLoVerse wishes her all the good lucks in the world for the Tokyo Olympic 2021.
