Ramchandra Guha, one of the best sports historians in Indian
cricket, has revealed some hard truths about Indian cricket. He was one of the
members of the CoA committee formed in 2017 under the direction of the Supreme
Court. But he left the committee after six months because of the politics and
lack of transparency in the board.
The observations of the famous writer Ramchandra are becoming
some important questions. Crores of rupees has spent in Supreme Court in the
last five years on board corruption cases. Instead, it shows that nothing has
worked. The terms of Sourav Ganguly and Joy Shah were due to expire in last
June. But in May, board secretary Joy Shah filed a lawsuit in court seeking to
stay in power. But that case has not come to court till today. And since no
case has been filed so far, both Sourav and Joy Shah have benefited.
Historian Ramchandra Guha outlines his five observations -
- One, the Indian board is now practically run by Amit Shah and Srinivasan. Someone's son or daughter is running the state cricket bodies. The board is now full of nepotism. None of the reforms that were talked about came into force.
- Two, look at Sourav Ganguly. The head of the board is now a fantasy game ambassador. Such demand of Indian cricketers for money is very shocking. Why is Sourav doing it for some extra money? If the head of the board does that, then where will the standard of honesty of the rest of the cricketers go?
- Three, the manner in which CoA Chairman Vinod Rai has decided to listen to one side in the Kohli vs. Kumble debate has been extremely unfair. The rest of the CoA members were in the dark about it. He should have decided to talk to both sides.
- Four, conflict of interest is a very bad thing. What Saurabh has done here is not right at all. This would not have happened if it was another country.
- Five, the condition of the commentators is now very miserable. Sanjay Manjrekar has had to stop commentary and return to apologize. It's ridiculous at once. Why will the board have control over the commentators? These things don't happen anywhere in the world.
The questions raised by Ramchandra are in fact the ultimate
truth and these are not new. Many legendary cricketers do not even open their
mouths for fear that the ruling cricket and politicians will get angry.
Ramchandra raised the question why they are so silent about it?
However, if you look closely, you can see how many cases
have been heard in the last few years regarding the board scandal. Day after
day it has been in the headlines. The Mudgal Committee was formed after the IPL
betting scandal. Later on January 22, 2015, the Lodha Committee was formed.
Those who submit reports within 14 July.
Justices Lodha and Mudgal acted very sincerely and
expeditiously. But their work did nothing. Sourav was called to the Mudgal
Committee. Later, to block all the recommendations of the two judges, some of
the board officials formed another panel headed by Justice Katju and they went
to the Supreme Court.
Mudgal has become the head of the Saurabh Board of the
Committee, but has the obstacle in the way of reform been removed? Srinivasan
or Anurag Thakur has been removed but their son or daughter or relatives are
still present in the board. Many people
are confused when they see the board president himself in the advertisement of
Fantasy League during IPL. Anurag Thakur demanded that betting in the game be
made legal. But on the recommendation of the Mudgal Committee, the cricket
board has withheld it even today. Impressed by Mudgal's various
recommendations, FIFA has warmly invited him and he is being used to prevent
corruption in football in various countries.
Basically, there is an invisible thread between the board
and the politicians. The binding of those threads sometimes loosens and moves
to the front. Although everyone knows that there will be no profit in it. The
bond between politicians and board officials will all be calm again.
