2020 WTA AWARDS NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
Reigning Australian Open Champion Sofia Kenin , Victoria Azarehka , Simona Halep , Naomi Osaka, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek are completing for the WTA player of the year award.

a) SOFIA
KENIN - Kenin started the year with her maiden major
title in Melbourne with back to back wins over the world no.1 Ashleigh Barty
and two time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza. Mking the second week of the
US Open upon the tour’s resumption from Covid-19 lockdown , the resumption from
covid-19 lockdown , the American reached a second major final at Roland Garros
finishing runner-up to fellow nominee Iga
Swiatek.

b) IGA SWAITEK- Iga Swaitek , the 19 years old Polish , who dropped a remarkable 23 games to win her first major title in Paris and crack the Top 20 in the WTA rankings for the first time. She also nominated for WTA Most Improved Player of The Year Award , having started the year as WTA no.59.

c) NAOMI OSAKA- Naomi Osaka the world no.3 picked up the third Grand Slam title of her career as she took the honor at the US Open . She also reached the final at the Western and Southern Open Final against fellow nominee , former world no.1 Victoria Azarehka.

d) VICTORIA AZAREHKA- Azarehka , who is also nominated for the WTA Comeback Player of The Year Award , won her biggest title at the Western and Southern Open since giving birth to son Leo, and also continued to impress at the US Open, when she reached her first major final since 2013 , with a semi-final win over 23 time Grand Slam Champion Serena Williams , losing to fellow nominee Naomi Osaka in the finals.

e) SIMONA
HALEP- Former
world no.1 Simona Halep captured 3 titles in 2020. Starting with her 20th
career title at the Dubai Tennis Championship back in February . She won 2 more following the Covid-19 lockdown in
Prague and later in the Interazionali BNL d’Italia, where she outlasted
Muguruza in a twirling three-set semifinal and beating Karolina Plisvoka in the
finals.

f) ARYNA SABALENKA - Aryna Sabalenka who ties Halep for most titles won in 2020. She won her third premier 5th title at the Qatar Total Open back in February. Ending the season on a nine –match winning streak. Sabalenka won back to back titles at the Jand Y Banka Osterva Open in Czech Republic and the Upper Austria Ladies Linz.
