Resuming from 96/2 overnight, India gave a slow start in the morning as the skipper Ajinkya Rahane (22) and Cheteswar Pujara (50) were playing so overprotective, Cummins dismissed both of them. India lost their last 6 wickets in just 62 runs and bundled at 244 giving the Baggy Greens a huge lead of 94 runs. Had the Indian batting a little more positive, the lead could have been lowered.
Rishabh
Pant (36) became the first player who has scored 25+ runs in 9 consecutive
innings in Australia. Pujara had scored his slowest fifty of his career. Aussie
fielding has done their job very well as Vihari (4), Ashwin (10) and Bumrah (0)
were dismissed by run out. It has been 12 years since 3 Indian batsmen have run
out in an innings.
Indian
bowlers had a good start in the second session as they got two early wickets of
Pucovski (10) and Warner (13) but then Marnus Labuschagne (47*) and the skipper
Steve Smith (29*) took control of their innings. At the stumps Aussies are at
103/2 with a humongous lead of 197 runs with 8 wickets in hand.
For the Indian
side the situation became worse as Pant and Jadeja got a knock in the forearm
and left thumb respectively, thus could not field in the 2nd innings.
Saha replaced Pant in keeping and Jadeja was replaced by Mayank Agarwal.
